5 Chatt-a-Hoots Named SBL All-Stars; Smith Named Assistant Coach

by Zak DeBeaussaert

Columbus, GA - The Columbus Chatt-a-Hoots have five players and a coach named to the SBL All-Star squad set to take on the FCSL All-Stars on Wednesday, July 14th at Golden Park.

1B Henry Daniels, SS Jesse Donohoe, LF/1B Cameron Gray, RHP Trent Hodgdon, and CF Zac Rice were named to the 30-man roster by the league. Three players were named but are unable to participate.

Jesse Donohoe has been a force at the plate consistently this season. He co-leads the SBL in RBIs with 13 and is 2nd in total runs created with 12. He also finds himself in the top-5 in average (.370), hits (20), doubles (6) and slugging percentage (.537).

Henry Daniels has brought good power into the Hoots lineup this year. Just six games into the season, Daniels had two home runs and seven RBIs to set the early pace atop the league leaderboards. He also is in the top-10 in slugging percentage (.462).

Put Cameron Gray anywhere on the field and he'll produce. Not only has he taken away two home runs playing left field this season, but he has been a steady first basemen defensively and has all-star batting numbers to back up his selection too. His speed in the field translates to the base paths as he is 2nd in triples with 3, one behind fellow All-Star Isaac Bouton (Gwinnett). He is also 4th in On-base Percentage with (.448) and also top 10 in RBIs (10) and Runs scored (11).

For the first time pitching against college-level hitters, Trent Hodgdon has shown his incredible talent this season on the mound. His 22.2 innings already puts him as one the most used pitchers in the SBL, but then throw in 41 strikeouts (1st in SBL), 16.28 K/9 (10th in SBL) and a .118 BAA (2nd in SBL) and you see why the future Mountaineer is turning heads before even throwing a pitch in the Big 12. Hodgdon's ERA of 2.38 sits him in the top 10 of the league as well.

Last but not least, patrolling Golden Park's big center field is Zac Rice. Rice is speedy in the field and on the base paths with six steals on seven attempts and has leadoff power for the Hoots lineup with two homer runs. He is also in the top 5 of the SBL for hits with 18.

Steve Smith was also named to the coaching staff for the Sunbelt Baseball league that will be managed at the top by Brookhaven's Corey Patterson.
