COLUMBUS BACK INTO FIRST PLACE TIE AFTER BIG WIN OVER AVIATORS
ALPHARETTA, GA - The Columbus Chatt-a-Hoots received four innings of three-hit shutout pitching from Brad Grasser and key hits at critical times as they downed the Alpharetta Aviators 4-1 on Wednesday night to move back into a tie for first in the SunBelt Baseball League with the Gainesville Gol'Diggers.
Sean Darnell's one-out double in the fourth inning led to an RBI single by Conner O'Neal to make it 1-0 Hoots.
Then in the sixth the Hoots added two more, as Zane Ross doubled to drive home Jack Witmer and Alex Thompson.
Alex Thompson picked up an RBI walk in the eighth with the bases loaded for the final Hoots tally.
With Gainesville's loss to the Brookhaven Bucks on Wednesday night the two teams are once again tied atop the SBL standings with just two games to go in the regular season. Brookhaven visits the Hoots on Friday and Saturday night at 7:05 pm, while the Gol'Diggers come to town for a Sunday doubleheader at 2:05 pm with the Chattahoochee Monsters. Tickets are on sale now for all remaining games.
