GOL'DIGGERS COME BACK TO TAKE GAME ONE FROM HOOTS

by Tom Callahan

COLUMBUS, GA - The Gainesville Gol’Diggers rallied from a four-run deficit with three runs in the seventh and four more in the eighth to take Game One of the SunBelt Baseball League Final 8-5 over the Columbus Chatt-a-Hoots on Wednesday night.

The Hoots put up single runs in each of the first five innings to establish a 5-1 lead, but once the Gol’Diggers got further into the Columbus bullpen the momentum changed.

With a man on and two out in the seventh, the Gol’Diggers pushed across three runs through the bottom of the order thanks in part to Theo Bryant’s two-run double. Then in the eighth the first four batters reached base safely and would go on to score as Gainesville eradicated the Chatt-a-Hoots lead.

Kyle Roper earned the win for the Gol’Diggers, throwing three innings of no-hit relief and striking out the side to end the ninth. Logan Seehafer took the loss for Columbus.

Game Two in the best-of-three series will come on Friday night at Ivey Watson Park in Gainesville at 6:35 pm.
