COLUMBUS, GA - The Columbus Chatt-a-Hoots (1-0) beat the Waleska Wild Things(0-1) 6-3 on Saturday night to open the SunBelt Baseball League Season at Golden Park.

Conner O’Neal picked up right where he left off after leading the SunBelt League in home runs last season. His three-run blast to right in the fifth inning provided the Chatt-a-Hoots with the margin of victory, doubling the lead from 3-0 to 6-0 at the time.

The Hoots also plated three runs in the second inning, with Carter Schmitt recording an RBI single and a couple of Waleska fielding errors leading to two more runs in the inning.

Brian Trepanier was dominant in his first start for the Chatt-a-Hoots, striking out 8-of-16 batters faced in four scoreless innings of work. Ashton Shackelford picked up the save in the ninth.

The same two teams are back on the diamond for a Sunday matinee at 2:05 pm at Golden Park. Tickets are on sale now via GoHoots.com or at the Golden Park Box Office starting at noon tomorrow.
