Waleska Splits Series On 10-inning Win
On a gorgeous Sunday at historic Golden Park, the Columbus Chatt-a-Hoots looked to sweep the Waleska Wild Things in their first homestand in team history. Following up an electric Saturday night ball game where the Hoots used a 6-run 7th inning to pull out an 8-3 victory over Waleska.
Samford Bulldog Luke Davis took the mound as the starting pitcher. Luke Davis pitched well through 4 innings only allowing a single run on a Branson Bowling fielder’s choice (4 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 SO). Meanwhile, Waleska’s starter Chase Allen had dominated the Hoots until a 2-out Home Run by Bryce Valero in the bottom of the fifth put Columbus on top 2-1.
Bullpens started to settle in as the game's second half moved at a brisk pace. Waleska tied the ballgame in the top of the seventh on a manufactured run scored by Ethan Anderson. Clay Weatherly, Ryan Middleton, and Jon Jon Brown combine for 3 IP and only 1 ER.
The Chatt-a-Hoots got the bases loaded in the 8th but Dylan High got Jesse Donohoe to fly out to center as the eighth inning ended. The Hoots put a runner on in the ninth but were unable to bring him home to walk it off.
The 10th inning began with the international tiebreaker rule with a runner on second. Austin Embrey got two outs in the 10th before a long double by Robert Trujillo gave the Wild Things a 3-2 lead. Sam Maynard came on for Waleska and worked around a 2nd and 3rd jam with nobody out to secure the win.
It was a tough afternoon for the Hoots offense as they notch 7 hits, but can only scratch across 2 runs. The Hoots will be back in action Monday against the Gwinnett Astros at 7:05, pregame coverage starts at 6:35 on the Hoots radio network.
